Year 2

In Year 2 we have been reading the text ‘Welcome to Country’. This is a story written by senior Aboriginal Elders, Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy. This led us into discussing the difference between Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country as well as writing our own. 

As a result of these learnings we (with the help of Miss Leonard) invited Sandon Gibbs-O’Neil, a local Aboriginal artist, to spend an art lesson with us. Sandon spoke about and demonstrated different symbols and techniques used in aboriginal artworks. Year 2 then used this knowledge to create their own work of art. It was a great learning experience and lots of fun!
