Safer Internet Safety Day

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is a global day of action bringing communities, schools, organisations and families from more than 180 countries together to raise awareness of online safety issues and work towards a safer internet.

The eSafety Commissioner leads the day in Australia and we’re calling on all Australians to help make the internet a safer, and more positive place.

Parents and carers, you play a crucial role in empowering and supporting children and young people to use digital technologies responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.

Indeed, parental influence, guidance and education have a significant and long-lasting impact on children’s safety and well-being in the online world. Therefore, there are plenty of ways for you to participate in Safer Internet Day, whether it is by ensuring an open dialogue with your children, educating them to use digital technologies safely and positively, or acting as digital role models.

At St Joseph’s, Junee the children will be ‘walked through’ their Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. A copy of the agreement will also be sent to you through Compass.

The Acceptable Use of Technology Policy [AUTP] for Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga has been adopted by St Joseph’s, Junee.

The key elements of the policy include:

  • Safe and Responsible Use: The policy aims to ensure all students use technology safely and responsibly for learning. It covers appropriate online behavior, protecting personal information, and respecting copyright.
  • No Personal Devices on the Network: Students and staff are generally not permitted to connect personal devices (phones, laptops, etc.) to the school network. A separate guest Wi-Fi is available for approved use.
  • No Sharing of Personal Information: Students should never share personal information (their own or others') online, including names, addresses, or photos, without permission.
  • Respectful Online Interactions: The policy emphasizes respectful communication. Cyberbullying, offensive comments, and sharing inappropriate content are strictly prohibited.
  • Consequences for Violations: Breaching the AUTP can lead to disciplinary action from the school, and serious breaches may involve the police. As parents, please familiarise yourself with the full policy.
