Welcome Fest - a Celebration of our Community
Amanda Gargett , Friends of Donvale (FOD)
When the idea for a humble BBQ, hosted by FOD, to welcome families back onsite after the long period of lockdowns, was first mentioned, no one had any idea what would result ...
"If we have a BBQ, maybe we should offer some sort of entertainment. Yes, we'll organise some carnival style games!
We could provide popcorn! Yes! And fairy floss! Yes!
What about other food options? Food trucks would add to the atmosphere.
It's going to be hot. We'll need drinks... Ice creams always sell well.."
We also added inflatables, a dunk tank, donuts, a photo booth and more.
And Welcome Fest was born!
Welcome Fest is all about celebrating our community at Donvale. We welcome in the new year. We welcome new students and new staff. We build new friendships, we reconnect with other school families. It's a celebration!!
After the time of lockdowns and restrictions, Welcome Fest brought us back together as a community. In this year of Jubilee, Welcome Fest is an opportunity to come together in community- families, students, staff- to celebrate God's grace to our College over the past 50 years.
We like to introduce something new each year and this year, our Prayer Group have organised a prayer tent. It will be a place where people can come and reflect on God's good gifts to us, write down what they are thankful to God for in our community at DCC and pray.
We have so much to celebrate!
Join us on Saturday the 22nd of February from 4:00- 8:00pm on the bottom oval and lower Community Hub area.
