From the Assistant Principal

Dear Families,

I hope all families have had a great start to the term. Below are a number of reminders that will help ensure our processes run smoothly throughout the year.

TURNING CIRCLE

Turning Circle reminders were added to our last newsletter. Below is our traffic management plan agreement with Sutherland Council for your reference.

Please ensure:

  • Names are clearly labelled on vehicles so students can be called quickly and efficiently
  • Only allow students to enter vehicles from where teachers are stationed in the afternoons, please do not leave your car to assist your child/ren.
  • Students are not to place any items in the boot of the car while in turning circle
  • Keep the traffic flowing when entering and exiting the turning circle. This means coming from the easterly direction along Flora St only and turning left when entering back onto Flora St. Turning RIGHT can hold up traffic and causes extra congestion.

GENERAL PICK UP REMINDERS

Dismissal time for students who are not on turning circle is 3.10pm. Please remind anyone who collects students from school of this time. Students sitting on the turning circle lines who are meant to be on parent pickup are not permitted to leave until 3.10. Please remind older siblings from St Patrick's College of this process.

BRING YOUR OWN DESIGNATED DEVICE

Just a reminder that it is an expectation that all students from Years 3-6 participate in our BYODD program. This means that students bring their own Chromebook to school for use during the school day. As the term continues, this technology will be used more frequently, especially to access google tools including Google Classroom and Google Docs.

I have added our BYODD policy and procedures below:

Things to note include:

  • Our designated device is a Chromebook. This platform allows students to enter the google suite of tools with one central log in. For specifications, contact the office.
  • Families experiencing financial hardship can contact Mr Darcy to discuss options
  • A limited number of Chromebooks are available for students to use who forget to bring their Chromebook to school. These devices are shared across a grade and do not solely belong to one child.
  • For families of students in Year 6 whose device breaks, please contact the office for options available to you.

EMAIL PROCEDURES

  • All emails to the school, including those for teachers, MUST be sent to the school’s admin email address, info@stpsutherland.catholic.edu.au. These emails will be read by members of the leadership team prior to being answered or forwarded to relevant staff members and responded to when required. All emails will be kept on file. Parents should indicate who the email is intended for in the subject line eg Attention: Mr Taylor.
  • Emails are responded to within a timely manner, as indicated on Sydney Catholic Schools - Communication between school and home document. This states that - “For non urgent matters, staff including teachers, will return your email within three working days during the school term. School staff are not required to return emails at nights or on weekends, and generally will not be checking emails during these times.”
  • Emails should be brief and informative. Emails work best when they are positive. Avoid sending negative or confrontational emails.
  • Email should not be used to discuss a sensitive issue. Issues that require immediate action or relate to a concern or problem, should be dealt with in person (preferred) or over the phone. Please contact the office to arrange an appointment with a class teacher.
  • Urgent or emergency communication or change of routine should be a phone call to the office rather than an email as emails are not guaranteed to be answered immediately.

Have a great week,

Jim Heelis

Assistant Principal
