International Women’s Day Breakfast – Join Us
The Student Voice and Leadership Team invites you to join us for breakfast as we celebrate International Women’s Day. Students are asked to bring a woman in their lives who inspires them to breakfast, to enjoy some food together, and listen to our guest speaker, Margaret Corcoran. Margaret is the inspirational mother of our Assistant Principal, Lucy Blackburne and has had an extensive international career in educational leadership holding positions in Africa, Asia, and Middle Eastern countries such as Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia. Margaret has a wealth of knowledge around what it means to be a woman in leadership and will share some of her experiences with us.
For catering purposes, we ask that you RSVP via this form by Friday, February 28, https://forms.office.com/r/havakricgR
We look forward to coming together to Accelerate Action and celebrate the inspirational woman in our lives.
Student Voice & Leadership – Values Speech
Pursuit of Excellence (Poppy Rohead, Year 12, Everard)
My name is Poppy, and I’m here to represent the school value of Pursuit of Excellence. As most of you already know, Pursuit of Excellence means aiming and achieving high at Eltham high school; however, [more complexly] than this, Pursuit of Excellence is the very value underpinning the core relationships which make Eltham unique. Excellence means [opening] yourself to new opportunities, not being afraid to get up when we fall and being able to learn from each other’s successes, and each other’s mistakes. As well as always striving to do our best, an excellent student must always enable others to do their best, which could be; helping your friend solve a difficult maths problem, supporting a mate whose scared to do an oral presentation or just being their for your pals on the day of their big game.
An excellent student is not just high achieving and supportive of their friends, but also harbours a positive community, recognising everybody’s right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. As an Eltham High student’s, it is our responsibility to maintain a positive environment, free from distraction, free from negativity and free from unsafe and neglectful peers. I encourage all of you to call out your mates when they are being distracting and call out your mates whose actions are unaligned with the foundational values of this school.
Whilst the school values aim to guide appropriate school behaviour, i hope these sentiments inspire you to carry these deeds beyond the classroom, and into your everyday life, embodying persistence, putting your best effort and recognising that doing our best takes time.
Thank you.
Reconciliation Action Plan
In 2025, we will continue our work in developing our Reconciliation Action Plan. Last year, the working party developed our Vision for Reconciliation and worked with our students to develop a draft Acknowledge of Country.
We invite all students, parents and school community members to be part of our meaningful journey towards Reconciliation. By joining our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Party, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with others in shaping a more inclusive, respectful, and culturally aware learning community.
If you are interested in joining the Working Party, please email Nadia Devlin, nadia.devlin@education.vic.gov.au.
