Student Welbeing

Navigating the High School Journey
An online forum for parents and carers of our new 2025 Year 7s
Part of our integral Year 7 Transition Support Program includes the combined efforts of Wellbeing and Junior school staff from Eltham High to create a wonderful and supportive space. We would like to extend this care and support and invite parents and carers of 2025 Year 7 students, to an online parent information session, on maintaining your young person’s wellbeing during their transition to secondary school.
Presenters, Anna Jenkins, (Mental Health Practitioner) and Carly Young, (Counsellor and Art Therapist) from the Student Services/Wellbeing team, will join Kathryn Boysen, (Junior School Leader), to share tips and ideas about some of the challenges facing teens during their transition into high school. We will discuss some of the practical steps that parents can take to partner with the school in supporting our young people to feel safe, develop sense of connectedness with their school community, and to help them to engage with their learning and development.
Topics will include:
· Common worries for teens and parents
· Managing social and friendship challenges
· Managing social media and safety online
· Routines, boundaries and independence
· Sleep hygiene
· When and where to seek support

Tuning in to Teens (TINT) is an evidence based program that supports parents to feel more confident to connect with their teens, understand their needs and challenges, support them to manage strong emotions and reduce conflict.
One of the things parents find most helpful about attending this program is the chance to share experiences that are common for parents at this time, and hear new ideas about connecting with teenagers.
