3/4 CLASSROOM

Over the past few weeks, our Year 3/4 students have been busy across all learning areas.
In Reading, we began exploring The Arrival by Shaun Tan. This unique graphic novel contains no words, instead using detailed illustrations and vignettes to tell the story. Students have enjoyed interpreting the images, making predictions, and discussing the experiences of the characters.
In Writing, students completed their factual recounts about colonisation before moving on to a creative narrative task about meeting a strange creature. The stories they wrote were imaginative, engaging, and full of creativity. Students have also been learning about similes and creating their own to make their writing more descriptive and interesting.
In Maths, Year 3 students have been learning about length. They have practiced using rulers accurately and measured a variety of objects around our classroom. Year 4 students have been exploring length, perimeter, and area. They particularly enjoyed participating in scavenger hunts around the room to measure shapes and calculate their perimeter and area.
In RE, we began our new unit, Celebrating the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Students explored the story of Pentecost by creating storyboards and discussing its significance. They then learnt about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, creating their own fruit displays, and discussing how these qualities can be shown in everyday life. Students are currently researching people who embody the Fruits of the Spirit through their actions and service to others.
In Art, we recognised Reconciliation Week by creating a collaborative artwork inspired by First Nations artist Bronwyn Bancroft. Students enjoyed experimenting with an oil pastel and watercolour resist technique to create a vibrant piece that was displayed during our Reconciliation Week Liturgy.
Reconciliation Week
I am incredibly proud of the Year 3/4 students for the leadership they demonstrated during Reconciliation Week. Throughout the week, students confidently and respectfully led our whole-school morning prayer in the amphitheatre, helping to create a meaningful start to each day. They also played an important role in our Reconciliation Week Liturgy, speaking clearly and thoughtfully while sharing messages of respect, understanding, and reconciliation. The students represented our class wonderfully and should be very proud of their efforts.
