What’s the Matter? Year 3’s Explosive Science Day!

by Mrs Dagg

This term, Year 3 students have been diving into the fascinating world of states of matter in Science. To bring our classroom investigations to life, we participated in an exciting, hands-on science incursion led by Ranger Abbie.

Throughout the day, students deepened their understanding of solids, liquids, and gases as they engaged in a range of mesmerising demonstrations and interactive experiments. One of the early highlights was observing liquid nitrogen rapidly transform a liquid mixture into a snowy, icy solid right before their eyes. Students were fascinated as they examined different materials, discussed their properties, and discovered how matter can change from one state to another.

The hands-on fun continued as students worked in small groups to create their own "oobleck" mixture, investigating its unusual properties as both a liquid and a solid. The energy level soared as they enthusiastically shook and exploded bags of soda water, before moving on to engineer their own rockets. Combining bicarbonate soda and vinegar, students worked together to trigger a chemical reaction. They watched in awe as the reaction produced a high-pressure gas, forcing their rockets high into the sky!

The day was filled with excitement, curiosity, and discovery, with students thoroughly enjoying every activity. The incursion concluded with a spectacular finale: Ranger Abbie used liquid nitrogen to create a massive pressure explosion, launching hundreds of play balls high into the air. It was a truly memorable ending to a fantastic day of scientific exploration.

A big thank you to Ranger Abbie for providing such an engaging and educational experience for our Year 3 students!

Conquering the Language Championships

by Madame Wilkinson

As mentioned in a previous Bytes report, our students smashed out the results in this year's Education Perfect Language Championships.Chelsea, one of our award winners said: The EP world championships was a great way to practice French and I loved seeing how well I was doing in the class.

Students who achieved over 500 points (Credit certificate) received their certificates this week.

Did you know that if they got over 500 points, they were among the top 20% of all those participating globally? (247 countries, 1,623 schools and 739,738 students involved: so this makes our results impressive!)

Additional to the 11 credit winners, Olllie and Taylor were awarded Bronze certificates for earning over 1,000 points and they were in the top 10% globally - Amazing!

Finally, our top scorer was Alexis who achieved the Silver award. This is the text on her certificate: Congratulations for answering 6,318 questions during the Education Perfect International Languages Championship 2026. You earned 2,277 points, placing you in the top 5% of competitors from around the world!

Congratulations to everyone who worked hard to make this year's competition such a success. You have set the bar high for future year groups to aspire to!
