Solo Soirees

Last week was busy with students performing solos at the annual String Solo Soirees. Everyone who plays in Corelli Strings or Orchestra was invited to perform a solo at one of concerts and with 88 courageous students accepted the challenge. The concerts were held over 3 nights.

The string teachers are so proud of all the students for making the most of this once a year opportunity and having a go. It is so wonderful to see the students playing pieces they have worked hard to polish in front of a very supportive audience. The Year 6s did a great job of presenting the concert. There’s definitely a magical atmosphere in the Collaboration Space on soiree nights!

Here is what some students wrote about their experience:

MONDAY 1st June

Even though I was really nervous I’m glad I did it and I think I played okay. I loved that I could have one other person playing with me.

Harry KR – 3M

Solo Soiree is a fun and exciting experience. At first it can be scary but once you start it is really really fun! You get to pick a song that you enjoy, then practice and practice until you're really good and then play it either with an accompanist, like a piano, or all by yourself. I had so much fun and I look forward to doing it next year!

Stella – 4K

On Monday at the Solo Soirée, there were lots of people. Everyone played very well. The most fun part was the mystery piece at the end.

Sally – 5W

On Monday the 1st of June, I participated in the solo soirees with 30 other students from IPS. There were many instruments including double bass, cello, violin and last but not least, I was the only viola. There were many songs played, for example Gaelic Melody, Enchanted Forst and the Dance of the Blessed Spirits. The evening finished out with a secret piece from Margaret and the other teachers.

Imogen – 5T

The solo soiree event on 1st June was a huge success! Having this event each year gives students the opportunity to just have a go at performing solo and speaking in front of a supportive audience.

At the start, some students were a bit nervous but after they played their pieces, I’m sure they would have been really proud of themselves.

One of the best parts of the soiree is that all 29 students had a chance to shine!

The solo soirees can really help improve your confidence and it is super fun to just play your instrument and participate.

Serah Varghese – 6M

Choir

The Yr3-6 choir that will perform at the Night of Music concert on 5th September had its first rehearsal last Friday. There was an excited buzz in the air as 51 choristers banded together to joyfully sing!

We are lucky to have Jennette Green returning to IPS to take the choir and Mr O’Brien to assist.
