Grade 3 News

Dear Grade 3 families and carers,
Welcome to our Grade 3 newsletter!
It has been a busy and productive time for us all across our Grade 3 learning community. Students have been engaged in a range of learning experiences, demonstrating curiosity, creativity and persistence as they continue to develop their skills and knowledge across the curriculum.
English
Students have been continuing to learn about morphology - the study of word parts and meanings. Through exploring prefixes, suffixes and base words, students are developing strategies to decode unfamiliar words, expand their vocabulary and improve their spelling and reading comprehension.
In Literature, the students have successfully written and published their own creative narratives, with an emphasis on how illustrations can enhance the story and support a reader’s understanding and enjoyment of a text.
The students have also been researching Vikings as part of our information report unit. They have been learning how to locate relevant information from a range of sources, record key facts using note taking strategies and organise information under appropriate headings and subheadings. Students are currently using their research to draft, edit and publish their own information reports on aspects of Viking life that interests them.
Mathematics
Students have been continuing to strengthen their number knowledge through a range of learning experiences focusing on multiplication, division and fractions. Through hands-on materials, visual representations and problem-solving tasks, students are developing their understanding of mathematical concepts, including how to represent and compare fractions.
Humanities
This term, the Grade 3 students have explored how people lived in the past through studies of First Australians and Viking communities. Students have developed an understanding of the rich cultures, traditions and connections to Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, while also investigating aspects of Viking life such as homes, longships, beliefs and daily activities.
