School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

At South Geelong Primary School, we continue to strengthen our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach by explicitly teaching and reinforcing our expected behaviours across all areas of the school. This consistent focus helps create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where all students can thrive.

Recently, we have placed a particular emphasis on transition spaces, those times when students move between classrooms, specialist areas, and outdoor environments. Several classes have been actively practising one of our key expected behaviours:“I will walk in a line and follow lead students when walking to and from all spaces.”

Through modelling, practice, and feedback, students are developing confidence and responsibility during these transition times. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating increased independence and cooperation while moving safely and calmly around the school.

A key element of effective SWPBS is the explicit teaching of expected behaviours. Just like academic skills, positive behaviours need to be clearly taught, demonstrated, and practised. By taking the time to teach what we expect, we set all students up for success and ensure a shared understanding across our school community.
