On Thursday night, I had the privilege of attending the Whittlesea Secondary College production, School of Rock - The Musical.  VIP night is always a special occasion, and I was thrilled to attend, especially when I had the opportunity to see so many past students hosting and performing. Congratulations to all of our WPS Alumni. I was so proud to watch how far you have all come. Whether you sang, danced, acted, or hosted the pre-event with the amazing catering... You rocked!

And now, from our teachers and students who attended the Wednesday Primary Schools matinee.

On Wednesday, 11th June, our Year 5 and Year 6 students walked to Whittlesea Secondary College to watch School of Rock: The Musical. The exciting musical was packed with energetic singing, impressive dancing, and live musical performances that had our students captivated from start to finish.

The production showcased the incredible talent and dedication of the secondary students, who performed with confidence, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Many of our students were particularly impressed by the live band element of the show, with performers singing, acting, and playing instruments throughout.

Following the show, students were given the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with the cast. They asked thoughtful questions about rehearsals, learning lines, overcoming nerves, and what it is like to perform on stage before a large audience. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain insight into the hard work, commitment, and teamwork that goes into creating a successful production.

Some of our Year 6 students shared their thoughts about the performance:

  • “Grace and Chelsea were standouts in the show. Chelsea was a lead role and was phenomenal!” – Maya, 6A
  • “It was really funny and entertaining!” – Zane, 6A
  • “I found it really funny.” – Charlie S, 6A
  • “I really loved the classroom scenes. Their uniforms looked cool, and the actor playing the principal was a really good actor.” – Nella, 6A

The excursion was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience live theatre and see firsthand how performing arts skills can be developed beyond primary school. With rehearsals for our own production of Seussical Jr. starting next term, the performance provided plenty of inspiration for our aspiring actors, singers, dancers, and musicians.

A huge thank you to Whittlesea Secondary College for welcoming us and sharing their outstanding production with our students.
