Literacy

What an interesting start to our new literacy unit, Fake News! This is an important unit as it builds real-world skills in analysing the authority and reliability of texts. Students are learning to ask questions about what they read, such as: Who wrote the text? Why did they write it? When was it written? How does it make me feel?

They are also examining how authors use language choices to influence readers' thoughts, feelings and responses. This helps students (and adults!) think critically about the trustworthiness of information and identify ways to verify what they have read. We look forward to exploring this challenging and highly relevant concept further in the coming weeks.

Maths

We've left data behind and are now moving full speed into multiplicative thinking.

Our Year 6 students are consolidating their understanding of efficient strategies for multiplying and dividing larger numbers, comparing unit rates, and exploring the relationship between fractions and division. They are also engaging in self-reflection at the end of each lesson to assess their progress and identify their next learning steps.

Our Year 3–5 students are investigating patterns and relationships between related numbers, such as 2, 4 and 8, and 3 and 6, when multiplying. Understanding these doubling patterns helps students become more efficient and confident when recalling multiplication facts. They are also learning how halving and doubling large numbers can simplify more complex calculations and support flexible thinking when solving problems.

Platypus PBL Day

The Platypus class have earned another PBL Bingo reward. We will recognise our efforts for working together to build a supportive and focused classroom on Tuesday, 9th June from 2-3pm. It's 'C" Day so Computers, Craft and a little bit of Confectionery. Well done to our students!!
