Year 6A Reflections

This term’s Inquiry was so much fun because we learned about animal conservation. We were given the opportunity to create unique dioramas that showed the differences between a healthy and an unhealthy biome. My biome was a rainforest, and I enjoyed making it so much because we got to use different materials to bring our dioramas to life. Although I would have preferred more time to work on it, it was still fun to look at others’ projects and watch them come together. - Naomi

This term in Inquiry, we created dioramas based on the biome we chose. My biome was the Amazon Rainforest. At first, I had no idea how I would make it work, but once I started thinking outside the box, everything came together. I really enjoyed seeing my box come to life, and with the time we had, I think we did pretty well. Even though many of us struggled, I think it taught us how to manage our time and also helped build our resilience and confidence. - Mikaela

For this term’s Inquiry project, we worked on something I had never done before: dioramas. Dioramas are miniature environments inside a box that you create based on your chosen biome. I chose the Arctic Tundra because I thought it would be an interesting place to recreate. In my opinion, I did pretty well on the project, especially considering I had been sick for a whole week and then had to finish Box 1 in one night — which, surprisingly, wasn’t stressful at all.

For the project, we had to create two boxes: one showing a healthy, thriving environment and another showing a polluted environment with clear examples of human impact. For Box 1, I had a little help from my parents to create a moving animal feature, but that was the only help I got apart from printing. I also finished Box 2 in one night, which put me ahead of some classmates even though they had an extra week to work.

We also had to explain the food chain of our biome, and that part went smoothly. Then I moved on to the most fun part — filming the video. I have to admit I sounded a little tired in the video, but I explained everything clearly. Overall, I think this was a great project for learning about biomes, and it was very fun and not stressful at all.  - Noah

This term, we worked on a new Inquiry topic about animal conservation. We made two dioramas: one showing a healthy environment and one showing a polluted, ruined environment. My diorama was the Great Barrier Reef. I chose this because I visited the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. I enjoyed making it because I got to bring my diorama to life. Even though I didn’t have all the materials I needed, I still persevered. This taught me how to be resilient when things don’t go to plan.

I thought everything went well, and I especially enjoyed the time we had to put our projects together. This task taught me how to persevere when things get tough. One of my favourite parts was painting the borders of the box and crafting the animals and coral reef.      - Jackson

For this term’s Inquiry project, we made dioramas of different biomes such as rainforests and grasslands. We had a great time and helped each other to create our special dioramas. Throughout the lessons, our teachers showed us how to make the best diorama we could.

One of the challenging moments was when the printer stopped working and everyone else’s images printed except mine. Mrs. Rupasinghe saved the day by drawing me the best crocodile I have ever seen. I could have managed my time a bit better, but my teachers helped me work it out. What I did well was staying in a positive mindset, which helped me complete my diorama in the time we had.   - Oliver

Dante Alighieri Poster Competition

Once again this year, many (76) of our students took up the opportunity to enter the Dante Alighieri Poster Competition. There were over 386 entries from many schools (9) across Victoria and I am delighted to tell you that two of our students were awarded prizes. They were invited to attend the award ceremony that took place at COASIT in Carlton.

This year, the chosen theme for the competition was “In Vacanza” –“on holidays”. To take part in the competition, students were required to produce an original poster including a visual or design element and written text, appropriate to his or her year level. In each section, students were judged against other students from the same year level. I am very proud of all our students and their efforts in completing the poster. They are all very deserving of the recognition that they have been given for their achievement.

You are invited to attend our Friday morning assembly on Friday the 12th of December when your child will presented with his/her certificate.

As the end of the year is fast approaching, and Christmas is soon at our doorstep, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2026.

Hope to see you on Friday 12th the of December.

Kind regards,
