Project Rockit Incursion: UNITE – Standing Up to Bullying

Earlier this term, our Year 3 and 4 students took part in the Project Rockit UNITE incursion. The session helped students understand what bullying is, how it affects people, and why it is important to support each other. The key message was: “Everyone has the power to challenge bullying, even in small and simple ways.”

Students played an interactive game called Level Up, where they were shown a bullying scenario and had to “level up” their actions if they were being an upstander (standing up for someone) or move down a level if they acted as a bystander. The presenters talked about why it can sometimes feel difficult to be an upstander, and some students practised short skits to show how they could help in real situations. Throughout the session, students had many chances to share ideas and discuss ways to make our school a safe, supportive place for everyone.

Literacy: Exploring Poetry

In Literacy, our students have been learning about different types of poetry. We began by writing acrostic poems, where each line starts with a letter from a chosen word, and students practised using descriptive language to share ideas creatively. We then moved on to cinquain poems, a five-line poem structure that helps students focus on choosing powerful words, using adjectives and verbs, and organising their ideas clearly. The students have enjoyed experimenting with language and expressing themselves in these short, structured forms of poetry.

Numeracy: Probability and Chance

In Numeracy, our students have been learning about probability and chance. They have explored useful language such as certain, likely, equal chance, unlikely, and impossible to describe how probable an event is. To build understanding, students played engaging games like Greedy Pig, Deal or No Deal, and Probability Bingo, which helped them see how chance works in fun, practical ways. Through these activities, students are developing stronger reasoning skills and learning to make predictions based on evidence.

Exploring Aboriginal Language and Symbols

Our Year 3 and 4 students have been learning about Aboriginal language and culture, with a focus on Woi Wurrung/Wurundjeri words from our local area. Students have explored how language helps share stories, identity, and connection to Country. We also watched The Family Project on YouTube to learn about Aboriginal art symbols and how these symbols are used to show people, places, journeys, and important events. Students enjoyed identifying different symbols and discussing what they might represent. This learning is helping students develop a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and storytelling traditions.
