Foundation News

Welcome to our super exciting Week 9 newsletter! It is hard to believe we are at the very end of the year, with our final week just around the corner. What an incredible journey it has been for our Foundation students! The amount of growth in their confidence, independence, and academic learning has been truly amazing to see. Here is a snapshot of what they have achieved over the past three weeks:

📖 Literacy

In Reading, students have been working on the story My Two Blankets, where they were introduced to a new way of comprehending texts through symbolisation. They explored the idea that language can be like a blanket, providing comfort and security. They have also been practising their retelling skills by putting the story into their own words. In Writing, students have produced their very first full narrative, including key story elements such as characters, setting, a problem, and a resolution. They are extremely excited to publish their stories in the coming weeks.

🔢 Numeracy

In Maths, students have been exploring time and doubles. They tackled tricky worded problems and connected their learning to real-life situations and looked into their times for their daily schedule. With games, partner challenges, and interactive routines, students worked together to grow their confidence and number power. 

🦊 Inquiry

In Inquiry, we are working on our final project about animals and habitats. Students have selected the animal they would like to present and are currently in the planning stage, thinking about the materials they will need to create their habitat pictures. They will be using all of their learning about habitats, including where their animal lives, what it eats, the type of shelter it needs, and any predators it may need to avoid. This project encourages students to apply their knowledge in a creative and meaningful way as they design a habitat that supports their chosen animal’s survival.

As we wrap up a fantastic year of learning, we just want to say how incredibly proud we are of every single student. Their curiosity, effort, kindness, and love of learning have made this year truly special. Let’s finish strong and celebrate all of their hard work together! 🌟💛
