Year 5/6

This cycle in English Literacy, we have been focusing on debating. We’ve had to learn about the roles of the affirmative and negative teams, and we also looked at what each speaker has to say and their role, and where to get our information to make our arguments as persuasive as possible. We use persuasive devices to make our debates as convincing as possible. The Great Debate is happening in Week 10!
In the English Unit of Work, we’ve been learning about business and economics. Our project is to come up with a product to solve a need within society in one of the three areas: refugees, disability, or climate. We had to decide what resources to use and a price for the product. We also have to present our best USP (unique selling points). We needed to make a script for our pitch, and we will pitch it to the ‘sharks’ like they do in Shark Tank! We will present our projects next week.
In our Italian Literacy cycle we are making podcasts! We are making a podcast about any topic of our choice. We are in groups, and we had to write a script. We could choose to make the podcast about an interview, a story, or a documentary. It’s been a lot of fun to learn about and record.
Lastly, in Italian units of work we are making a product just like in English but a different product. We had to make a product for Italian refugees arriving in Australia. Once we had done that then we could make an ad for the product! We wrote a script and are now in the filming process. It has been such a great way to end the year in Unit of Work!
SPORT
On Friday 7th of November, 52 students represented BSPS at the Bilingual World Cup! We were all ecstatic to cheer and encourage our amazing teams (Insieme United) to show teamwork and sportsmanship. In the games we played against the other schools, both the team and the supporters had a wonderful time, meeting the other bilingual schools’ students. Our goalie Tom led the frightening chant next to our ‘Benvenuti’ flag! Lots of people, including some from the other schools' teams, participated in a cool Mexican wave to encourage our girls’ team to try and win their semifinal match!
We had our group stages; both teams tied their first games and also won their second. The boys team lost their third match and did not continue to the finals. The girls continued their winning streak until they got into the second last match (the semifinal) which they lost. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament. It was such a great day, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
