Year 9/10 Music Students Spread Joy Through Performance at Glanville Village

Our Year 9/10 Music students recently delivered a wonderful performance at Glanville Village, bringing music, community and connection together in a memorable afternoon. Performing outdoors to an enthusiastic audience of residents, students showcased not only their musical skills but also their maturity, adaptability and compassion.

This gig offered students real-world experience in preparing for a live performance, including managing their own equipment. A few discovered the challenges of forgetting essential items such as drumsticks, cables or a guitar amp. However, they demonstrated impressive flexibility and problem-solving, finding creative ways to make their performances work. Their perseverance ensured that the show went on smoothly, and they should be proud of their resilience.

All students displayed exceptional respect and warmth toward the residents. A highlight of the afternoon was watching students graciously accept flowers gifted to them by a resident, a gesture that reflected the strong connection formed between performers and audience.

Standout performances included “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls, performed beautifully by Tiia Shiels and Zac McInnes, and a powerful rendition of “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon featuring Hugh Campbell, Will Styles, Ben Billing, Ruby Reardon, Maya Wise and Olivia Frazer. Many other performances were chosen with the audience in mind, offering a wide selection of songs from the 1970s up until now.

Our Year 10 students also took on leadership responsibilities, organising key aspects of the event such as equipment lists, communication with the venue and the running order of performances. Special mention goes to Tiia Shiels, who excelled as the MC for the afternoon, guiding the event with confidence and professionalism.

Overall, the day was a valuable learning experience that gave students a deeper appreciation of what it takes to plan, prepare and deliver a gig. We commend all students involved for their hard work, teamwork and the joy they brought to the Glanville Village community.

Australian History Competition

This year, eight of our Year 9 and Year 10 students proudly represented our school in the Australian History Competition, a nationwide event that tests students’ historical knowledge, source analysis skills, and understanding of Australia’s past. The competition offers an excellent opportunity for students to extend themselves academically and deepen their understanding of history.

We are proud to recognise two particularly high achievers: Emily Law (Year 9), who earned a High Distinction, and Lukas Weiser (Year 10), who achieved a Distinction. These are outstanding results and reflect their strong understanding of historical concepts.

We congratulate all participating students for their enthusiasm and commitment to extending their learning beyond the classroom. Their involvement reflects a genuine passion for history, and it is exciting to see this flourishing across our school.

Year 10 Road Smarts Program – A Powerful Three-Day Learning Experience

We are pleased to reflect on the recent Year 10 Road Smarts Program, held from Wednesday, 12 November to Friday, 14 November 2025. This three-day initiative was designed to equip students with practical road safety knowledge and to build confident, responsible future drivers. Through engaging presentations, hands-on demonstrations and meaningful discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of making safe choices on the road.

A major highlight was the Mock Accident Demonstration, where emergency services from our local community attended our school to show students how a real crash scene is managed. Police secured the area, the Fire Brigade stabilised the vehicle and used specialist equipment—including breaking windows and operating the jaws of life—to safely access the “injured” passenger, and Ambulance officers demonstrated how they would triage and stabilise a patient. This powerful demonstration emphasised both the seriousness of road incidents and the vital role of our emergency services.

Students also heard from Keynote Speaker John Maher, who delivered his impactful presentation Carmen’s Story. John’s message about road safety, risk, family and the lifelong impact of dangerous driving resonated strongly with the cohort and encouraged thoughtful reflection.

The program continued with a range of informative and practical sessions, including:

  • Don’t Mess with a Truck – Students learned important truck safety principles and viewed a practical demonstration of trucks on our roads.
  • NSW and Victorian Police – An information session about cross-border logistics, the impact of drugs and alcohol and community safety responsibilities.
  • Marine Rescue – Students explored water and river safety, gaining valuable insight into safe behaviours around our local waterways.
  • Dealing with Trauma – A specialist facilitator guided students through understanding trauma, emotional responses after an incident and strategies for seeking help and supporting others.
  • Car Maintenance Workshop – Students were shown essential vehicle upkeep skills, including how to change a tyre, check oil and coolant levels and identify basic warning signs in a car.
  • Defensive Driving (AustDrive) – Delivered at the Moama Speedway, this hands-on defensive driving course allowed students to apply safe driving techniques in a controlled, practical environment. These sessions help develop hazard awareness, braking skills, and safe vehicle control.

The Road Smarts Program offered our students a rich and memorable learning experience, preparing them not only as future drivers but also as responsible members of our broader community. We thank all guest presenters and emergency service teams for their contribution to this valuable program.
