Primary School

On Thursday 13 November, we hosted our Kindergarten Open Classroom session. We invited 2026 Kindergarten students to become familiar with the classroom and playground environments with their trusted adult prior to their first transition morning. There was a real buzz in the air as students engaged in a variety of activities in the classroom and had a play on the playground.
That evening, we ran a face-to-face and Zoom parent information session for new primary families to support their transition to our school.
On Thursday 20 November, it was great to welcome the 2026 Kindergarten students back again for their first transition morning. This first morning is such an important milestone in the transition-to-school program. It gives the children an opportunity to start building connections with their teachers and peers. Whilst the students were engaged in the classrooms, parents were invited to attend the Curriculum Workshop, which outlined our approach to English, Mathematics, fine motor skills and Pastoral Care. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ivan Honey, the founder of The Get Happier Project, for explaining our comprehensive social and emotional learning program. I would also like to thank Tonya Eishold from Moama Community Health for speaking to our families about children’s speech and language skills, and Johnanna Nesbit, a local audiologist, for explaining the importance of good hearing and the impact hearing loss has on learning.
We look forward to seeing all our 2026 Kindergarten students again for their second transition morning on Wednesday, 26 November, from 9:00am to 12:30pm.
Primary Transition Day
All current and new students at Moama Anglican Grammar will participate in a Transition Day on Tuesday, 2 December. On this day, students will step up into their 2026 class with their 2026 peers and classroom teacher. This day is an integral part of preparing for the 2026 academic year, and staff have planned an enjoyable and informative program with plenty of ‘getting to know you’ activities. These activities will help new students build connections with their peers and ease any anxieties they may have about changing year levels or schools.
Students are asked to wear comfortable, casual clothes and begin the day in their normal classroom. End-of-day arrangements will remain the same as usual.
For students who have been identified, additional transition strategies will be implemented prior to this day.
Scarecrow Competition
Our Kindergarten students were delighted to learn that their beloved scarecrow “Weedy” won first place at the Echuca Moama Agricultural Show over the weekend.
The students helped create him as part of a hands-on learning activity during their recent Big Day Out at our Gunbower campus. Weedy has now found his forever home in our school veggie garden, where he looks after the plants and scares away those pesky birds. The $50 prize money, kindly donated by Moama Health Clinic, will help us purchase more plants to add to our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden.
Year 4 Golf Excursion
On Friday 14 November, the Year 4 students enjoyed a wonderful morning at the Rich River Golf Club with Mrs Tonkin, Mr Johnson and several fantastic parent helpers. The weather was perfect, and the students were excited to finish off their term with a hands-on golfing experience. Students rotated between mini golf and the driving range, practising their swings, having fun with friends and learning new skills. They were guided by golf pro Lleyton, who was very impressed by their behaviour, enthusiasm and skills.
The morning was filled with laughter, teamwork and plenty of friendly competition. It was a great opportunity for students to try something new and enjoy learning outside the classroom in a relaxed and engaging setting. After a shared morning tea and an ice cream treat, students wrapped up what was a very successful excursion. A huge thank you to the parent helpers whose support made the day possible, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
The Year 4 students left with big smiles, great memories, and a fun experience to look back on!
Year 5 Leadership Speeches
On Wednesday, 19 November, 36 nominated Year 5 students completed the daunting task of presenting their leadership speech in front of their peers. Students showed great enthusiasm and initiative, using this opportunity to celebrate their voices and growth. All students should be congratulated on the way they confidently conducted themselves. They were well prepared, and it was evident that students had put a lot of thought into their speeches. The 2026 Year 6 leadership group will be announced at the Primary Presentation Assembly on Tuesday, 9 December. The students will be introduced to the school community early next year at the Commencement Assembly, where they will recite their School Leadership Pledge, formalising their leadership position.
Early Stage 1 Assembly
At the final Stage Assembly of the year, students and teachers proudly celebrated the achievements of the Kindergarten students who received a Superstar Award.
Congratulations to Aylah Ward, Molly Matera, Maya Kornmann and Thomas Stonehouse for their outstanding effort and dedication to learning. It’s hard to believe the year has flown by, and the Kindergarten students are now preparing for Year 1! We are so proud of everything they have accomplished and know they will continue to shine as superstars in Year 1.
Stage 1 Assembly
On Wednesday, 19 November, students in Year 2A hosted the Stage 1 Assembly. Students presented their learnings from the Australian picture book ‘Mallee Sky’ by Jodi Toering, studied during English class. This story inspired them to explore the beauty and character of the Mallee environment. Students created their own Mallee Silo designs to reflect the colours, textures, and wildlife of this unique landscape.
Selected students also shared their noun group writing that was inspired by the imagery in the text.
“A sad unforgiving gravel road sits quietly. The hot, tired Mallee sky dries the ground with its warmth.”
Written by Ochre Pascoe
“A looming, bright, enormous sky.”
Written by Lexi Clydesdale
“The selfish, unforgiving gravel road. The hot air from the sky is beating down.”
Written by Emma Nichol

Presentation Assembly
Preparation for the Primary Presentation Assembly is underway. This Assembly has been scheduled for Tuesday, 9 December, starting at 11:00am in the undercover area. Parents are invited to attend this important event, and in addition, the assembly will be livestreamed for parents to view. These formal assemblies are a great opportunity to celebrate students’ achievements. Each classroom teacher from Kinder to Year 6 will select the 4 recipients for the student awards listed below.
| Name of Award | Criteria | How the Award winner is determined |
Excellentia
| Awarded to one student from each K-6 class: ‘is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest overall results across the curriculum in their class for the year. | This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on consistent and independent achievement throughout the year and generally not dependant on effort or attitude. Results from class-based assessment tasks and standardised tests, form the basis of the decision. |
| Endeavour | Awarded to two students from each K-6 class: ‘is awarded to a student who has achieved above and beyond their potential across the curriculum by committing their best effort throughout the year. | This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on consistent achievement and application throughout the year. The recipient will be a student that regularly goes the extra mile to provide evidence of attention to detail, in-depth investigation and thinking, reliability and presentation. Learner attributes not readily tested such as work ethic as well as aspects of the School’s Core Values also provide guidance when determining the recipient. |
| Most Improved | Awarded to one student from each K-6 class: ‘is awarded to the student who has demonstrated the greatest progress and application throughout the year. | This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on progress and application throughout the year. A comparison of results on class-based assessment tasks from the beginning of the year and standardised tests, should demonstrate a significant “leap” and form the basis of the decision, overlayed with teacher judgement to reflect learning attributes not readily tested such as work ethic as well as aspects of the School’s Core Values. |
University of Melbourne (UoM) Regional Clinic
Our School has worked in partnership with the University of Melbourne for many years, accessing the professional services of the UoM Psychology Regional Clinic. Dr Chelsea Hyde, the clinic manager and her team of provisional psychologists are scheduled to visit Moama Anglican Grammar on Monday, 1 December and Tuesday, 2 December to conduct educational psychology assessment services for selected students. If you have any questions about this service, please contact me via email ndeller@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.
Message from the Office
A reminder that the playgrounds around the Primary School are not supervised by staff after school. Parents must actively supervise their children if they are using the play equipment. Students without a parent present to provide active supervision will be asked to leave the area. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
