Good Luck Year 6

As our Year 6 students prepare to take their next big step into high school, we want to wish each of them the very best for the journey ahead. It has been a privilege to watch them grow into confident, capable and compassionate young people who are ready for new challenges and opportunities. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved this year—their resilience, teamwork and enthusiasm have made our classroom a wonderful place to be. We hope they carry these strengths with them into Year 7 and beyond, and we look forward to hearing about all the amazing things they accomplish in the future.

Stage 3 Art

This term, Stage 3 has been exploring our “Stories Through Country” art unit, where we have been learning about the work of contemporary Aboriginal artists such as Reko Rennie, Sally Morgan, Bronwyn Bancroft and Judy Napangardi Watson. We have discussed how each artist uses colour, pattern and symbolism to express culture, identity and connection to Country. We have looked at art as a form of protest and expression, and have learnt a lot!

Miss Patterson and Miss Gregory have guided us to create our own representations of Country through art, and we have loved experimenting with different ways to make art. We have had to show our creativity and thoughtfulness to develop pieces that reflect our own stories and connections.

Stage 1

Our Stage 1 students travelled to Thalgarrah Education Centre last week for their excursion. Students learnt about the Anaiwan history of Thalgarrah. They observed and drew pictures of the scar tree, where a coolamon had been made using wood from the tree hundreds of years ago. Our students also participated in a mapping activity where they were able to track different animals according to where their scats (droppings) were. They helped to build a fire and sampled some bush oven potatoes. Students also enjoyed playing in the bird maze as well.

Recently, our students walked to the Uralla Library to write our letters to Santa. We came up with some great examples of how we've been helpful and kind this year...so many good boys and girls in Stage 1, Santa!

Thank you to all our wonderful families who were able to come to our assembly and watch us perform the Heel & Toe Polka. We hope you enjoyed our bush dancing!

Chamber of Music

On Monday 1st December, students from Years 2–6 were treated to a special visit from three talented musicians from the Chamber of Music. The performers shared a variety of musical pieces, ranging from classical favourites to more contemporary works, taking the students on an engaging and memorable musical journey. Throughout the performance, students listened attentively, responding with curiosity and enthusiasm, and had the opportunity to learn about the different instruments and sounds that make up a chamber ensemble. It was a wonderful experience that inspired a love of music and gave students a chance to experience live performance up close. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all and provided a valuable insight into the world of professional music.

Naturally Brave Showcase

Over the last term students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 have been learning about natural disasters and the impact that they have on people and the environment. Students were tasked with designing something to help support people before, during or after a natural disaster. Student’s worked through the design thinking process to identify problems that they experienced in recent natural disasters. They then had to come up with some solutions to these problems. Students used 3D design software to create their designs which were then printed in the schools 3D printers.

A small group of students were selected to attend the “Naturally Brave Showcase” in Port Macquarie where they got to present their ideas to industry experts.

The students did a great job representing Uralla Central School with pride.

Learn to Swim

Over the past two weeks, students from Years 2–6 enthusiastically took part in the Learn to Swim program. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they developed new skills and strengthened their abilities in the water. All students made noticeable progress and should be proud of their achievements. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff who supported and supervised the program—your efforts made this valuable learning experience possible.
