Careers News

by Claire Bloom

Another very busy year - where did the time go? Our Year 9's have undertaken Occupational Health and Safety training, have had Morrisby Careers appraisals and started to plan for Work Experience 2026. It will be here before we know it, and students should really start thinking about what the can do during the week of June 22 - 26, 2026.

Many of our Year 10 and 11s will be starting VET subjects next year, including things like Early Childhood Education, Community Services, Carpentry, Auto mechanics, Interior Design, Animal Care, Equine Studies, Electrotechnology, Beauty Services, IT and Allied Health. Not to forget Sport, Aquatics and Recreation here at WHS! What an amazing array of choice and opportunities available to our students.

A number of students finished 2 year VET qualifications this year, giving them, not only 4 VCE Units that contribute to VCE attainment, but also a nationally recognised qualification that can be built on in the future.

Another amazing opportunity that a number of our students have taken up this year is the Head Start program. Headstart allows students to complete their VCE whilst undertaking and apprenticeship or traineeship. We have had and will have students getting a head start on their future career in areas such as baking, cookery, mobile plant mechanics, hair dressing and carpentry. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you think this program may be of interest to you. Further information can be found at this link. Fact sheets on the wide variety of offerings are available!

Finally, best wishes to the class of 2025 as they transition to the "real world", pursuing further education or training, starting work, travelling or other exciting ventures. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are going!
