Literacy

Our literacy topic this term is fairy tales. The Platypus class has been busy revisiting familiar tales and learning new ones. Our focus this fortnight has been analysing the codes and conventions by looking at the settings, characterisation and symbols that are typically found in the fairy tale genre. 

Maths

In maths, our whole class focus is on division facts to 100. Stage 2 students are focusing on fact families to develop their fluency and understanding. Stage 3 students are investigating strategies such as partitioning to help divide larger numbers. All students continue to review fractions as part of their daily reviews.

Our math focus this fortnight is multiplicative thinking. All students are currently exploring the connections between multiplication and area. Stage 3 are doing this through real-world problems such as calculating the largest area of a paddock given a set amount of fencing. Stage 2 are using rectangle arrays with a missing section to calculate the area. Next week we will begin making connections between multiplication and volume.
