Principal's Report

Congratulations to Year 6 Leaders, Riarn and Felix, who have represented Box Hill North Primary School at the Whitehorse Council Junior Voicenator meetings this year, amongst a group of 32 students from 13 different primary schools in our network. Felix and Riarn shared their ideas at four meetings throughout the year, collaborated with students from other schools and, most importantly, helped shape future Council strategies and actions. We are very proud of Riarn and Felix for their Ambition and strong leadership skills.
Well deck the halls and get your beach towels ready, December is coming! Is it just me, or has 2025 flown by in a whoosh of productivity? It feels like just yesterday that we were welcoming our 2025 Prep students into the school and helping them find their way to the playground. Now they're making announcements about Positive Behaviour Acknowledgements over the PA and speaking on camera for website content; not to mention the incredibly impressive learning they have achieved!
Next week we will have an Information Night for 2026 Foundation students. We cannot wait to do it all again; supporting young people to feel confident in their learning is what we are all about at Box Hill North.

Whole-School Transition has now commenced, and it was wonderful to see students engaging so positively in their 2026 year-level groups last Friday. Students will continue their transition over the coming Fridays, spending time in the year level they will enter next year.
Our 2026 classes will be finalised for Tuesday 9 December, when students will meet their confirmed classmates and teacher/s and participate in a dedicated session together. Our 2025 Year 6 students will spend this day transitioning to Year 7, and we wish them all great success as they step into secondary school!
As part of our commitment to ensuring every student can learn in a supportive and balanced environment, teachers invest considerable time and professional judgement into constructing class groups for each school year. This process involves careful consideration of every child’s academic profile, learning needs, social development and individual circumstances. Our goal is to create classes that are well-balanced, inclusive and positioned for strong learning growth, allowing teachers to apply SWPBS effectively and consistently across all settings.
These transition opportunities are carefully designed to help students feel calm, confident and well-prepared for the year ahead. By spending time with staff, peers and learning activities in the new spaces, students can begin building familiarity and comfort as they take the next step in their learning journey.

Our second working bee will focus on clearing and organising storage spaces, including areas under buildings and in sheds. We’ll also be breaking down old furniture to go into a skip (or two). It’s a big task but as we all know many hands make light work!
We hope to see lots of families come along to lend a hand and enjoy the community spirit that makes these afternoons so rewarding.

At Box Hill North Primary School, our work with School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) continues to strengthen a calm, predictable and supportive environment where every student can engage deeply in their learning.
SWPBS is a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), meaning it is a whole-school approach designed to meet the academic and wellbeing needs of all students. While the name may suggest a focus on behaviour, SWPBS is not a behaviour management program. Instead, it is an evidence-based framework that helps schools create the conditions where learning can thrive.
At its core, SWPBS emphasises:
For most students, this foundation (Tier 1) ensures they can participate confidently and remain focused on their learning. For some, additional short-term supports (Tier 2) help build specific skills, and for a small number, individualised strategies (Tier 3) assist them to access learning successfully.
By embedding SWPBS across our school, we are reinforcing a shared culture where students understand what successful learning looks like and feel well-supported to achieve it. Our aim is always to strengthen engagement, wellbeing and academic growth, ensuring every child has the opportunity to flourish.
