Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

This week in Week 7, our classrooms have been very busy. We have been completing some assessments, but there is still lots of learning, exploring, and sharing happening every day.

On Wednesday, the Ephesus Community celebrated Mass together. The children joined in beautifully with the singing and prayers. In Father Denis' homily, he spoke to us about Jesus’ message: Jesus is like the vine, and we are the branches. When we stay close to Jesus by loving others, praying, listening, and choosing kindness, He gives us the strength to grow and do good things in our lives.

We also took part in our KidsROAR program, which helped us learn important ways to keep ourselves safe and to know who we can talk to if we ever feel unsure or worried.

It has been a special week of learning, faith, and connection for our students. Let’s keep growing together—just like the branches on the vine!

This Week's Learning

Religious Education

In our lessons we concluded our lessons on belonging to a community helps people feel safe and connected and  commenced the topic of Advent. The time to prepare our hearts and actions with hope for a better world, and that it challenges us to create pathways for peace, fairness, and justice.

Christmas Carols: Below is the song we will be performing. If you could practise at home, that would be great!

Integrated Learning

This week, we are wrapping up our learning about how our actions can promote health, safety and wellbeing within the wider community and surrounding environments. Next week, we will be linking learning with our class novel, The One and Only Ivan, and our visit to the zoo. Students will be investigating the ecology of an animal, including their behaviours, needs and how human actions can impact their lives.

English

The Year 3 students are learning that bio means “life,” as seen in words like biologybiome, and biodiversity. They also learned how to use an apostrophe for plural possession and how to distinguish between simple, compound, and complex sentences. In writing, the students are continuing their persuasive letter by planning and writing their second paragraph about wild animals being used in the circus. The students must have a topic sentence, back it up with evidence and proof and end the paragraph with a concluding sentence.

Mathematics

This week, students have been learning how to explore data in simple and fun ways. They have been asking questions, collecting information, and organising it using tallies, tables and graphs. They are also practising how to read their data and talk about what it shows. These activities help students notice patterns, compare results and share their ideas with others.

Social & Emotional Learning:

The Year 3 students joined in the KidsROAR program. KidsROAR teaches Personal Safety to help protect children and adults. Its mission is to prevent abuse, reduce violence, and support a healthy, safe, and caring community. Students defined stress and identified its possible causes. They used a game to develop self-calming techniques and discussed how self-calming and self-control help them manage daily challenges. They also explained the importance of self-discipline in supporting their learning.Your child would have come home with a Safe adults hand
