Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Take a look at our Advent-Social Justice projects as we learn about our Integrated Health topic "Fuel for the journey".

Jerusalem Community will be collecting clean cans and plastic bottles for recycling through Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to contribute to our community outreach and learn about recycling. Please see the attached poster for more information. 

Please help your child practise the words for our Christmas concert. Here is the link for the video.

Important Reminders

1. Term 4 is a SunSmart term and 'No hat, no play', please ensure your child has their hat for school.
2. All students are expected to wear full St Thomas’ school uniform — either summer, winter or PE is fine, but it must be the official school uniform. 

This week:

Literacy-Reading - We continued watching Little J & Big Cuz ABC short videos to explore the themes of belonging, perseverance and the Aboriginal perspective. 

Literacy-Phonics -During Phonics, we looked at the u-e/ue (oo) sound.

Mathematics-We continued implementing our Number Fluency practice each day and focused on Shapes. 

Integrated-Health- This week, we started our Integrated Studies theme on shared rules and responsibilities and connected with Social & Emotional Learning. Students will engage in hands-on activities that promote respect and teamwork during Social & Emotional Learning.

Religious Education - This week, we focused on Advent through sacred texts as being a time of preparation of the birth of Jesus. Through this we are also learning how we can all celebrate Advent.

Social & Emotional Learning - We focused on connecting with our Integrated Studies theme on shared rules and responsibilities. Students will engage in hands-on activities that promote respect and teamwork.

AUSLAN - This week we revised the things with wings.

Next week

Literacy-Reading - We will be focusing on the book 'Hey Awesome'. 

Literacy-Phonics - We will look at the sound (oo) ew, ui.

Mathematics - We will continue implementing our Number Fluency practice each day and focus on Location. 

Integrated - We will continue focusing on our Integrated Studies theme on shared rules and responsibilities and connected with Social & Emotional Learning. Students will engage in hands-on activities that promote respect and teamwork during Social & Emotional Learning.

Religious Education -  Next week, we will focus on Advent.

AUSLAN - We will focus on some revision next week.

Ways to engage with the newsletter:

• Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.

• Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.

• Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.

• Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply a 5 word mini dictation.

• Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.
