Foundation Visual Arts Lessons

Foundation students have been busy discussing and describing their Christmas card designs inspired by the scripture passage Matthew 2:1-2. They shared the art materials they used, the story behind their illustrations, and what they enjoyed most about the creative process. Students are now learning about proportion and sizing. They are practising how to use the whole A3 page to draw an iPad and add images of the apps they use at school and at home.

Grade 1 and 2 Visual Arts Lessons

Students have been discussing their Christmas card designs inspired by the scripture passage Matthew 2:1–2. They explored the subject matter of their artwork, shared their ideas, and explained the art materials and techniques they used, as well as what they enjoyed about the creative process. Currently, classes have selected an animal they saw on their recent farm excursion. Using grid lines, they are learning how to draw their chosen animal with accurate size, proportion, and shape. Some animals require 4 grid sections, while others use 8 or even 16! By following the grid, students are able to create large, well-shaped drawings that make full use of the page.

They are also learning how to blend oil pastels to add colour and bring their farm animals to life.

Grades 5 and 6 Visual Arts Lessons

Students have continued to balance a number of projects in Art. They have been developing their digital art skills in Canva, designing presentations where their athlete sculpture becomes the main character complete with animations, sound effects, music, text, images, backgrounds, and thoughtful reflections. Alongside this, students are continuing to work on their art folder cover designs, using font work, painting, and drawing techniques to create unique and expressive covers.
