Learning

and Teaching

The Building Foundations Transition Mornings have been going exceptionally well, with all of our new students settling beautifully into the routines and rhythms of the F/1/2 classroom. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explore their new learning environment and begin to understand what a typical morning at St Mary’s looks like.

While we are not explicitly running the InitialLit program during these sessions, we have been following the same structured literacy model that underpins it. This has provided our incoming students with a gentle and engaging introduction to the routines they will experience next year. The children have enjoyed listening to a variety of carefully chosen storybooks and participating in literacy-based activities that connect with each text, helping them build early skills in phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension.

In addition to their classroom experiences, our new students have had plenty of opportunities to familiarise themselves with the school grounds, meet current students, and enjoy some fun and active play on the playground. Watching the children interact so positively with one another and with our current students has been a real highlight, reflecting the warm and inclusive culture of our school.

We are so proud of how confidently our new learners are beginning their journey at St Mary’s and look forward to welcoming them again for the next transition session!
