Foundation (Prep)

English

We have had another busy fortnight. Prep C have looked at CVCC words (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant). These words encourage students to really stretch out words to hear the middle and end sounds. We have practised reading and spelling words using different vowels, such as: camp, dust, went, pond and limp.

During daily writing lessons, students have practised forming simple sentences. We also took the opportunity to write independently about our excursion to Edendale Farm. Students attempted spelling new words and experimented with using capital letters, full stops and spacing between words, to demonstrate the skills they have learnt so far. These independent pieces highlighted areas to work on and will shape our learning goals for the second half of term.

Maths

Some recent Maths assessments highlighted the need to revisit the topic of Equal Sharing. We have just completed a thorough unit which has unpacked the language we use when sharing collections equally, to ensure each group has a fair share. Students have practised solving problems and showing their understanding through drawings. We have worked in guided sessions and also had the opportunity to practise independently.

Edendale Farm

The Prep-Grade 2 students enjoyed an excursion to Edendale Farm last week. As part of our Term 4 Science topic, students were taught about how living things meet their needs in the places they live and how the features of plants and animals enable their survival. The activities we participated in included: 'A Bug's Life', 'What water bug is that?' 'Buzzing around' and a farm tour.

It was an exciting time to visit the farm with lots of new baby animals to see, including: lambs, kids, ducklings and a baby alpaca that had only arrived in the world ten hours earlier. Students engaged in interesting information sessions, role play and hands-on activities.
