Year Two

The Year Twos have just finished our Sharing the Planet unit all about space. At the end of the unit, students did their own multimodal planet project. Each student picked a planet, made a 2D or 3D model of it and wrote an information text with all the facts they learned!
Students practised their research and note taking skills to get as much new information as possible. Then they paraphrased this new learning into their own words to create our information report.
When creating a 2D or 3D model, the Year Twos used recycled materials, paint, glitter, foam balls and lots more! When we finished our project, we created a multimodal presentation on Seesaw with our voice recording, videos, pictures and our written work. We were so lucky to have the Year Sixes look at our multimodal projects and give us feedback on what we have written and created.
I chose the planet Jupiter and I learned that Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. It is white with some grey and peach-coloured streaks. Its immense gravity has pulled in planet-sized moons. It has 95 moons! Did you know that Jupiter has a big red spot which is bigger than Earth? Jupiter is also the largest gas giant in our solar system. It has rings around it, but hey you can’t see them!
– Charlie, 2LK
I chose the planet Saturn and I learned a lot of new facts. Did you know that Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun? Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Jupiter are in front of Saturn! Saturn is the second biggest planet in the solar system. It has 52 moons made out of ice, rock and dust. These moons orbit between the rings.
– Khadija, 2MT
I chose the planet Neptune and found out that Neptune’s rings are made from dust and ice. Neptune is a gas giant which means it’s made of liquid and gas. Neptune is very cold, dark and super stormy because it is the last planet in our solar system. Neptune is unique in its own ways. It’s unique because it’s the only planet who is in 8th place in the solar system. We hope you liked learning about the planets in our solar system!
