Design & Technology

Welcome to the Team
We’re excited to welcome Stephanie Moorhouse as our new Design and Technology Teacher in the Technologies Learning Area. Stephanie and her family recently moved to Perth from the United Kingdom. She brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm, and we’re glad to have her join us.
Creative Beginnings in Year 7
This semester, our Year 7 students have continued to work on hands-on projects that incorporate wood, metal, and systems. These activities help them build practical skills and learn to use tools and equipment safely.
One project that students enjoy is the Steady Hand Game. They have utilised basic electronics to design and build a game that tests coordination and patience, similar to the game Operation. Each student has also added their own artwork, making every project unique.
It’s great to see students’ enthusiasm and pride in their work as they learn to think like designers, solve problems, and bring their ideas to life through real projects.
Building Skills for the Future
Year 12 students have recently completed their VET Certificate III in Engineering: Technical, having spent two years on hands-on learning. They built a strong foundation in ten units of competency and developed technical and problem-solving skills for future engineering and manufacturing careers.
During the course, students learned to work safely in manufacturing, communicate clearly, and include environmental sustainability in their projects. They also became confident with technical drawings, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, and making accurate measurements. Recently, they used these skills in 3D modelling and design, bringing their ideas to life with CAD.
The final project, a laser-cut crane, was a highlight. It showed how much students have developed in skill, creativity, and attention to detail. It was great to see them take charge of their designs, solve problems, and present their finished work with pride.
We congratulate them on their achievements as they move on to further study, apprenticeships, or work in engineering and technical fields.
