eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!

I cannot believe that, as I write this update, we are already over halfway through Term 4… and what a busy one it is, with lots happening in the VET space.

A quick reminder that Year 11 VET Connect students need to confirm their Workplace Learning plans for next year and their Employer Details Form, which they need to return to the VET Office, are now overdue and must be returned urgently. I look forward to seeing the Year 11 students back at school on Wednesday, 26 November. Students need to have their Workplace Learning Logbooks and Skills Journals ready for me to collect and mark so that I can send the results to SCSA by their deadline. Full completion means that all dates worked over the year are recorded in the logbook.

The Year 10 VET Connect students are busy completing all the requirements of the Work Readiness program, finalising external courses for next year, and most have found an employer who will take them on for Workplace Learning in Year 11. Students must return their Employer Details Form to the VET Office as a matter of urgency to ensure that their place in VET Connect remains reserved for them for next year.

All Year 10 work experience documentation is now well OVERDUE!! The Education Department has strict policies in regard to work experience requirements. Unfortunately, if all paperwork pertaining to a work experience placement is not returned by Friday, 21 November, the placement will not be able to proceed. I look forward to seeing nearly 200 Year 10 students take up this opportunity in Week 9.

Spotlight on the Hospitality Breakfast at the Green Apple Cafe - A Delicious Success!

Our talented Year 11 Hospitality students recently showcased their skills in a special breakfast service at the Green Apple Café. This event was part of their assessment in food and beverage service, and they truly rose to the occasion!

Staff from across the school were thrilled to be invited as dine-in guests and enjoyed a mouthwatering breakfast prepared and served by our students. From perfectly plated meals to refreshing juices and steaming hot drinks, every detail was handled with professionalism and a smile.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as guests savoured their meals and admired the students’ confidence and teamwork in action. After the service, staff completed feedback forms, providing valuable insights to help students refine their craft.

It was wonderful to see our students demonstrating their skills in a real-world setting and delivering such a high standard of hospitality. A big congratulations to our Year 11 Hospitality class for making this event a memorable experience for everyone involved! Special thanks to our wonderful Hospitality trainers Aisling Marshall and Samantha Papalia.
