NAPLAN 2026

Preparing for Year 9 NAPLAN: Important Information Evening for Year 8 Parents

We warmly invite you to attend our upcoming Year 8 NAPLAN Information Evening, which will focus on the Year 9 NAPLAN assessments and their long-term significance for your child’s educational journey.

A key focus of the evening will be the minimum literacy and numeracy standards required for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). These standards are first assessed through NAPLAN in Year 9.

During the session, we will explore the structure and content of the Year 9 NAPLAN tests, explain how results are used to determine WACE eligibility, and discuss the implications of not meeting the standard early. We will also share guidance on how families can best support their child’s preparation and progress.

We kindly ask that you confirm your attendance using the link below. This will help us ensure adequate seating for all attendees.

Date: Wednesday, 26 November 2025

Time: 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

NAPLAN 2026 (Years 7 and 9)

The NAPLAN testing period for 2026 will take place in Term 1, from Wednesday 11 March to Monday 23 March. Catch-up tests will be available for students who are absent on test days, up to and including Monday 23 March.

To help students prepare, the NAPLAN Online Practice Test will be held on Monday 23 February. All Year 7 and 9 students will complete the Omnibus Practice Test, which includes Reading, Conventions of Language, and Numeracy.

It is important that your child attends school and participates in both the practice test and the official assessments. While NAPLAN results are not directly linked to school reports, they provide a valuable snapshot of student achievement and progress.

For Year 9 students, meeting the minimum literacy and numeracy standard in NAPLAN will mean they are automatically prequalified for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Literacy and Numeracy requirement. This prequalification exempts them from sitting the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA).

Students who do not meet the WACE standard through their Year 9 NAPLAN results will be required to sit the relevant OLNA component. They will have up to six opportunities before the end of Year 12 to demonstrate that they meet the required literacy and numeracy standards.

Students must bring their own device along with Bluetooth or plug‑in headphones for both the practice and official testing sessions. Devices operating on Android, ChromeOS, or Linux are not permitted. Acceptable devices include Windows computers running Version 10 (21H2) or later, macOS computers running Version 12 or later, and iPads running iPadOS 17 or later, provided they are equipped with an external keyboard. Devices purchased through the school portal will automatically install the NAPLAN browser, ensuring they are ready for use during testing.

We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child’s device meets these requirements prior to the testing dates. We also thank you for your ongoing support in helping students prepare for and engage positively with NAPLAN.
