Curriculum-Based Activities

Creativity and Technology at Whittlesea Tech School
During Term 3, all classes had the exciting opportunity to take part in a weekly program at Whittlesea Tech School, exploring a range of hands-on, technology-based learning experiences. Over several weeks, students developed new skills in Gift Making, Drones, Podcasting, Videography, and Robotics.
The program began with Gift Making, where students went through the design process to plan, create, and personalise a gift for someone special. This activity encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and design thinking, as students carefully considered who they were making the gift for and how to make it meaningful.
Students then moved on to the Drone Technology workshops, where they learned how drones work and how to safely navigate them through a series of obstacle courses. This hands-on experience helped students understand real-world applications of drones in industries such as delivery, photography, and environmental monitoring.
In the Podcasting and Videography sessions, students learned how to record and produce their own media content. They explored green screen filming, sound recording, and editing techniques, allowing them to express their creativity and storytelling skills in new and exciting ways.
The final part of the program involved Robotics, where students programmed a robotic arm and instructed it to complete a variety of tasks. This activity encouraged teamwork, logical thinking, and precision as students experimented with coding and automation.
The weekly sessions at Whittlesea Tech School gave students the opportunity to engage with modern technologies, develop practical skills, and explore possible future career pathways. The program was a fantastic experience that blended fun, learning, and innovation — and students thoroughly enjoyed every session.

RIJI (Real Industry Job Interviews)
PRC students undertook their annual RIJI Mock Interviews in Bellfield. Each of our students prepared for a hypothetical job position, talking to industry professionals, outlining why they would be most suitable for the role, discussing their previous work experience, teamworking skills and problem solving abilities.
Students put a lot of effort into their outfits, wearing suits, neat jackets and looking very professional. As always, we were very proud of our students, overcoming their nerves to give a great account of themselves, gaining praise from their interviewers.
ACMI
Morgan attended an excursion to the ACMI 'Game Worlds' exhibition as our student ambassador at the Melbourne Poly Whittlesea Tech Fellowship program.
'Game Worlds' gave students an insight into over 50 years of video game history, with interactive exhibits, playable games and original design materials. It also enabled them to see the great evolution of game design and culture over time.

Road to Zero
Purple and Blue Classes Visit Road to Zero at Melbourne Museum.
Recently, the purple and blue classes visited Melbourne Museum to take part in the Road to Zero program. All students had a fantastic time and learnt a great deal about road safety, which was especially valuable as many of them are currently learning to drive.
Road to Zero is an award-winning, state-of-the-art education complex developed by the TAC in partnership with Melbourne Museum. The program aims to raise awareness about the importance of road safety and equip young people with the knowledge and skills to make safe decisions as drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
During the visit, students took part in two engaging sessions:
Experience Space (45 minutes): Students explored 13 immersive, hands-on exhibits that focused on key road safety themes, such as the effects of speed, distractions, fatigue, and vehicle safety features.
Learning Studio (75 minutes): In this interactive session, students created their own public health campaign videos, where they worked together on a team-based road safety challenge using advanced touch table technology.
The day was not only informative but also exciting and highly interactive. Students left with a stronger understanding of the responsibilities that come with being on the road and how they can contribute to making our roads safer for everyone.

Sustainathon
On October 8–9, students from Orange Class, Daniel and Henry, attended the 2025 Sustainathon at Whittlesea Tech School. This excursion was offered to further support their growth and learning after focusing on sustainability topics in their Personal Development Skills subject. The two-day event challenged students to apply their knowledge to real-world sustainability issues (e-waste, retail waste, and manufacturing waste) while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation skills.
This hands-on experience not only deepened students’ understanding of sustainability but also fostered essential skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and effective communication.
We commend both students for their enthusiasm and commitment, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow as active, informed, and responsible citizens.
