Principal Message
Friday 21st November
What a wonderful fortnight it has been at Mitcham Primary School. Our students have represented our school beautifully during swimming this week, showing confidence, courage, and a genuine love of learning. We have seen children overcoming fears and demonstrating real resilience, students challenging themselves with new strokes, and everyone showing respect for one another and for the venue. Their enthusiasm in the water has been matched only by their excellent behaviour outside of it. A huge thank you to Miss Ellis and Mrs Price for their exceptional organisation of these two weeks of swimming lessons. Their hard work has ensured a smooth, positive experience for all.
On Wednesday evening, we were delighted by the wonderful turnout at our Prep Parent Information Night for our 2026 Prep families. It was fantastic to meet so many enthusiastic parents and to feel the excitement building for the amazing group of Prep students who will be joining us next year. We are very excited to be welcoming them into our Mitcham community.
Another highlight of the week was the outstanding performance at last Friday’s assembly by three of our Grade 6 students, Charlie, Xavier, and Brandon. Their natural leadership and role-modelling for younger students shone through as they presented their very own “No Hats, No Play” rap. Taking the initiative entirely on their own, they aimed to encourage all students to wear their hats consistently in the yard, a consistent warm weather issue across the school. Their message was clear, positive, and focused on student health and wellbeing, as well as the consequences of not wearing hats. Delivering it in rap form made it incredibly engaging for their audience. Please enjoy their lyrics below:
I wake up in the morning, ready for school
Brush my teeth, pack my bag - that's the rule!
I wear my hat, yeah, that school style
When I wear it right, I can’t help but smile!
Chorus One: Hat on, game on, feeling so cool,
Wearing my hat is the rule at school!
Sun’s up high, don’t let it get ya!
Keep your hat on, it’ll protect ya!
No hat, no play, no fun today! x2
Verse One: Some hats are red, some hats are blue,
Some got sparkles, or stickers too!
It’s not just fashion, it’s keeping me safe,
From the sunshine’s super-bright rays on my face!
Chorus One: Hat on, game on, feeling so cool,
Wearing my hat is the rule at school!
Sun’s up high, don’t let it get ya!
Keep your hat on, it’ll protect ya!
No hat, no play, no fun today! x2
Verse Two: Baseball cap, bucket hat, wide or flat -
Doesn't really matter what kind of hat!
As long as it’s on and you’re ready to play,
You’re showing your smarts the school kind of way!
Chorus Two: Hat on, game on, everyone sing!
Hats make school a super fun thing!
We learn, we laugh, we shine all day,
With our hats on right - hooray, hooray!
No hat, no play, no fun today!
Outro: So keep your hat on, don’t forget…

Xavier, Charlie and Brandon, our ‘sun smart’ rappers!
Reminder: School Arrival Time
We kindly remind all families that the school is not open for students before 8:30 am. Recently, we have noticed an increase in the number of students arriving prior to this time. Please be aware that teachers and office staff are not on duty until 8:30 am, and we are unable to provide supervision before then.
If you need to drop your child off earlier, please ensure you book them into Team Kids, our approved before-school care provider. This helps us keep all students safe and properly supervised.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Have a lovely weekend!
