Junior Years - Term 4 - Weeks 7 & 8

In Literacy, we have been learning four letter words with the spelling pattern CVCC (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant). We revised all our common digraphs and continued to practice all our tricky words, which can be found in the back of the reading diary.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about counting and place value using numbers to 100. We used base 10 blocks to break down numerals into tens and ones. We practiced counting forwards and backwards from any given starting point.

In Religion, our topic is, ‘Celebrating Jesus’ Birth’. The students listened to the birth of Jesus story from the Bible and discussed the setting and characters as well as talking about the enormous amount of joy and wonder Jesus’ birth caused.

This week we have enjoyed swimming at Aquamoves. The students have loved learning about water safety and practicing their skills in the water.

At home you could reinforce learning by:

  • Listening to your child read their reader each night.
  • Practice reading and writing tricky words found in the back of the Home Reading Diary.
  • Practice handwriting lowercase letters of the alphabet.
  • Write a sentence or two about your week at the pool or what you did on the weekend.

Please encourage your child to sound out the words when possible

  • Complete the maths problems below...
  • What numbers can you make that are below 100 and have a 6 in the tens place?
  • How many tens and how many ones are in the below numerals:
  • 32
  • 15
  • 78
  • Can you count forwards from 36 to 50?
  • Can you count backwards from 23 to 0?
