Secondary Community News

Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)

The 7/8’s have been gearing up for their Second Travel Training excursion of the term. This week we will be travelling to Sunshine Plaza. We will be focusing on using our myki, reading train timetables and being safe and respectful on public transport.

During writing, the 7/8’s have been writing a narrative piece. They have been working on adding new adjective words to their vocabulary, proofreading their work for spelling and punctuation and to publish their work on book creator or seesaw.

Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)

Each week our year 10 students have been expanding their Work Related skills by participating in a Barista program onsite to make and deliver coffees and milkshakes to staff around the school. The students have been doing an amazing job and really enjoy their work experience!

Some of our 9/10s have visited the ACMI and Federation Square for Travelling Training, enjoying the new Beings Exhibition and had a great day out!

Our class Café has been amazing! Students have been collecting feedback from staff. It has been really nice to read such good feedback!

Senior Secondary (VPC/ASDAN)

Recently 10/12A were invited by the Sunshine Hospital to participate in a volunteer appreciation lunch at Club Italia. The students visit the hospital weekly with their teacher and education support staff to care for the gardens. The students all work well to water, weed and tidy numerous patient and staff gardens. It was a lovely opportunity to meet other community volunteers and hear their stories of how volunteering has not only helped others but enriched their lives also.

I am extremely proud of all the students for their excellent behaviour and efforts. As always, it is a pleasure to share time with each one of them. Well done students!

Meanwhile, Matthew Sciberras continues to shine during his independent work experience. Well done Matthew!

On Thursdays both ASDAN classes have been, as part of the work experience program, working hard at Westvale Community Centre and Sunshine Hospital. At Westvale we have planted some seedlings and seeds to provide produce that should be ready to pick in Term 4. At the hospital students have been planting flowers and tidying up to make the communal areas pleasant places to sit and walk around.
