South Australian Student Online Forum

On Monday this week our school participated in the  term 2 Student Online Forum that built on the term 1 focus of learner agency. The event was hosted by Sarah Bradbury who is the Program Leader in the Curriculum Development Unit and our Department for Education Chief Executive, Martin Westwell.

The forum provided opportunities for some of our Student Ambassadors and seniors to explore dispositions and capabilities for learner agencies and to continue to build the student action cards to be available to all learners in 2025 (very exciting!).

Last week leading up to the event, our school had the pleasure of inviting Sarah Bradbury. At the meeting, Sarah worked with a few Student Ambassadors and all of the students who were at the last online student forum to support us to develop scripted questions leading up to the event, so that we can share with other schools how we are responding to the Wellbeing & Engagement Collection (WEC) data.

Sarah was also able to watch one of our Student Ambassador meetings, where students had the opportunity to further unpack  the 'Learner Readiness' section of our WEC data with the support of the Department for Education Areas of Impact action cards.

We have linked the areas of Learner Readiness with the three Areas of Impact Action Cards to support us to map out the rationale behind the data. For example, the action cards enabled us to identify whether there is evidence of practice across the school connected to the following 'Learner Readiness' sections of the WEC data:

  1. Students feel that they always persevere with tasks despite facing challenges
  2. Students feel they engage in and care about their learning tasks
  3. Students feel  confident about their academic abilities

We looked at the three relevant Areas of Impact action cards to support us to unpack evidence of practice in the areas above. The cards were:

CARD 12 - Learners are supported to have a go and persevere with new and complex learning (connected to the first area)

CARD 18 - Learners engage in learning experiences that grow their understanding (connected to the second area)

CARD 3 - Learners talk with others about what and how they learn (connected to the third area)

During the Forum, the students from LNPS who participated had the opportunity to share the work that our Student Ambassadors are undertaking to improve the 'Learner Readiness' section of our WEC data. All of our students spoke eloquently in front of many other schools and spoke about:

  • What is the WEC?
  • Why is it important?
  • Which area of the WEC our Student Ambassadors focused on and why
  • How we connected it to the Areas of impact action cards
  • How we used the information in the WEC
  • What are our next steps?

I am very proud of all of our students who participated and represented our school with pride. Go LNPS!!

I look forward to supporting students to participate in the term 3 forum and sharing the learning with the community.
