Hey everyone!

As we near the end of term and wrap up semester one, we want to congratulate and thank all students and staff for their incredible efforts. Especially as SAC and exam week posed a great challenge to students, we know how much everyone deserves a break.

We have had a big term with so many events on the JMSS calendar including our annual Athletics Carnival. The day was absolutely amazing with lots of participation from all houses, really demonstrating the JMSS spirit.

Close to Mother’s Day not too long ago, the school celebrated International Women’s Day with a breakfast before school. Many students generously brought food for everyone to share and together we discussed the importance of women. The theme for this year was #InspireInclusion.

Last Thursday, we also had our free dress day where the theme was DECADES and students could dress up according to the trends of a decade of their choice. There were amazing outfits to see with lots of thought given to them! Gold coin donations were collected towards the State Schools Relief, where we raised $375.05.

Other events initiated and run by students included a Tetris Tournament, Year 12 Pancakes and Sculpting during lunchtimes.

World’s Greatest Shave:

The 2024 World’s Greatest Shave has been a great success with our goal being surpassed by over $3000 and beating last year’s total by more than $1000. We just barely managed to scrape through to reach our 20k goal by the 31st of May and got to see Mr. Mackinnon have his head shaved. A massive thank you to all the teachers that participated, students that had their hair cut or shaved, and to everyone that donated to support the cause.

We are absolutely astounded with the enthusiasm and involvement you guys have put into this event and the things that we have accomplished as a community has such a positive impact on those who are suffering from blood cancer.

With the $23.2k we have raised, the Leukaemia Foundation can either fund 463 batches of essential laboratory grade glassware for blood cancer research, 290 nights for regional families who need to relocate for life saving treatment, or 154 scholarships for PhD students to research the next breakthrough for a cure.

We are now a part of the fight for zero lives lost to blood cancer by 2035 and that is all because of your contributions.

We would like to say thank you to the 21 volunteers who have participated in the shave by either shaving or cutting, the 9 teachers who have participated in the roulette, Ms Abels who has MC’d during the day, Mr Mackinnon for sacrificing his hair to shave for the cause, and finally YOUR contributions which is what really made all of this happen.

We are so grateful that we are able to make a lasting impact for so many families, and you guys should be proud of what we have achieved – because we sure are.

Overall, this busy term has been a rollercoaster for JMSS students, and we wish everyone a happy holiday! Rest well, sleep well, eat well, and stay hydrated! Let’s all recharge ourselves for the events to come in Term 3.

Kind Regards,

Isabella Young, Rafael Choi, Seojin Hwang & Crystal Hui
