From Student to Staff

The College has been around for 47 years, and over this time it has changed, expanded and built up a community in which you are all involved in today. A number of our past students have since become valued staff members here at the College. Below are the reflections of Miss Gabby Kurniawan, who is now a Learning Support Assistant at Wantirna South Campus.
What years did you attend the College?
I attended the College from 2012 to 2022.
What is your fondest memory of your years of being a student?
My fondest memory is the lab work with all my friends, in Miss Tse’s Year 10 Science class. We were often distracted by the many laughs we had. It was an extra special year as it was the last year I shared homegroup and many classes with my friends.
What are some of the main differences about the College now compared to when you attended?
Definitely the buildings! Two new buildings have opened since I left, and some rooms/spaces, such as the library, have had renovations. The Year 11 students even have their own common room now.
What has never changed?
The care that teachers have for their students.
How long have you been with the College and what is your role?
I have been with the College for around 3 months, working as a Secondary Learning Support Assistant.
What do you love most about your role/the WCC community?
I love how rewarding my role is and that it is different from a teacher’s role in the classroom. As I am often working with students who need more support, I am blessed with many opportunities to get to know the students and see them grow not only academically, but also in knowing their identity in Christ.
Any final thoughts/reflections on your time at WCC over the years?
I am truly thankful for the time I had at Waverley Christian College. It really shaped who I have become as a person, and has given me lots of memories to look back on fondly.
