Assistant Principals' Report

Semester 1 Reports

Reports will be available to parents and carers on Compass on the afternoon of Thursday 27th June.

As previously posted, students in Years 1 to 5 will be marked against the new Mathematics Curriculum 2.0. Teachers have reported against the achievement standard as a whole, with a single, aggregated score indicating a student's achievement.  As this is the first time students will receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

Prep teachers have continued to use the previous Maths curriculum for this year as the Mathematics Curriculum 2.0 doesn’t currently include levels A to D.  The three strands of the achievement standard will be included on students' reports.  Prep teachers will begin using the new curriculum in 2025.

It has been lovely to read lots of the student's reports and especially the comments written by their classroom teachers.  It is great to read how students are displaying the College values, working hard to apply themselves, using the feedback they receive in the classroom to improve their learning and building relationships with their classmates and teachers.

If you have any questions about your child's learning at school, please contact your child's teacher to organise a time to meet or for them to phone you.

Home Learning

In the Primary Years, we expect students to read at home five nights a week and record this in their student diary. This record of reading is then used to determine how students are reported for home learning on their reports.  While teachers encourage students to complete this reading and check their diaries, we also appreciate parents' and carers' support in setting up a routine at home and also monitoring their child's progress.

Positive Learning Routines

As we approach the end of the term, we encourage our students to finish strong by following the Positive Learning Routines at Hazel Glen College. These routines foster a supportive and productive learning environment, helping each student to stay focused, engaged, and motivated. Your support in reinforcing these routines at home will ensure that our students end the term on a positive note.

Attendance

At Hazel Glen College, we place great importance on regular school attendance, but we understand that there will be occasions when your child needs to be away from school. If your child is unwell, please notify us of their absence by logging into the Compass portal and providing an explanation.

Cyber Safety

Attached below is a parent and guardian resource you may wish to use to support your child around cyber safety. This Family Digital Agreement is aimed to help establish clear guidelines and expectations for responsible digital behaviour, encourage open communication about online activities, and ensure a safe and positive online experience for your child. We hope you find this tool helpful in fostering a secure digital environment at home.
