Student Wellbeing

Year 6

6 Thomson

For Wellbeing, 6T identified 20 things that we should say more often. Taking inspiration from Kid President who helped us realise that everyone has value no matter what our differences are. Students passed around a piece of paper with their name on it and made a compliment about each member of the class. We then made a list of class compliments that we could say more often to each other.

6 Pinney

Through The Resilience Project, 6 Pinney have been focusing on ‘Gratitude’ and the helpful impact it has on our wellbeing. Did you know, people who write in gratitude journals tend to become healthier and happier?! So our whole class decided to do just that, and show what we had learnt by making a gratitude wall in our classroom!

Before the holidays, our class went on the internet to research some gratitude quotes for our wall. We found so many cool quotes, and Yumeth even made his own fantastic quote (go Yumeth)!! Some great quotes we found were ‘When eating fruit, remember the one who planted the tree’ and ‘Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions’.

During the holidays, we created a gratitude journal where every day we would write 3 things that went well for us that day. So now that the second part of our wall was completed, we had a beautiful journal full with all our amazing thoughts and of the people that we are grateful for!

During Wellbeing, we have been listening to the Newshounds Podcast, which teaches us about media literacy and how to approach it. We begun by learning exactly what media is a where we see it (everywhere!), and compared the pros and cons of the past and present media formats. We have learned that people alter certain things in pictures to make them look better. We have also learned the difference between misinformation (incorrect information that's spread by someone who doesn't know it's false, and isn't trying to do any harm) and disinformation (incorrect information that's intentionally created and shared). We have learned to ‘stop, think and check’ before believing everything we see online, and to think about who is making the media and why. Are they any hidden messages? I have enjoyed learning about media literacy and how to stay safe online.
