Shared Reading

Each morning we have been reading ‘Wonder’ by RJ Palacio. This is an opportunity for the students to listen to the story and hear how the teacher expresses themselves, changing appropriately for which character is speaking and how they are saying it. Listening to the change in volume or pauses that provides opportunities to reflect. So far it has been a very enjoyable book that when it is time to move on to the next task, there are a number of  complaints not to stop.

Maths

In maths we are learning to estimate, measure and compare the masses of objects using kilograms and grams. Mass is the amount of matter or substance that makes up an object. Not to get confused with weight - the force of gravity on that object. We have also been working on the skill of hefting and have sometimes been very close to our guess.

Big Write

The whole class found this week’s topic, writing an explanation about themselves, to be an easy task. The room was silent while everyone had their head down writing as fast as they could in the allotted time to complete their steps of how they get ready for school.

Science

This week in Science they have had the opportunity to make a paper plane. This is the second time this year they have had this task. The first being in the STEAM class. We have taken some time to consider their last design and how they can improve on their first attempt. The answer will reveal itself in the flying phase (see photos below).
