From the Foundation, Grade 1 and 2 Classrooms

It's hard to believe that we only have one week of Term 3 to go. What a busy and fun term we have had!

The Foundation students have been working with Mrs H over this past week, and she will be with them until the end of term. Together they have been learning about sharing/division in mathematics and busily working on their RAT.

The Concept of Social Justice- Rich Assessment Task

This term, the Foundation and Grade 1 and 2 students have been exploring the concept of Social Justice.

Foundation

Foundation students have been learning about ways in which they are the same and different to others, celebrating these differences and how we can show kindness and fairness towards others.

As part of the Rich Assessment Task, students have created a booklet titled 'My Culture Project Book'. This task involved students to think and share about their culture in relation to food, games and celebrations. This was a great opportunity to identify and celebrate ways in which the cultures represented in our classrooms are similar and different.

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 and 2 students have been exploring how we can show respect in different places, how we can treat all people with fairness and respect and what we can learn from people who are different to us.

As part of the Rich Assessment Task, students created a ‘Making Everyone Feel at Home’ booklet which involved them reflecting on what they had explored this unit.

Flag and slogan: Students designed a flag which reflects the different cultures that are represented within their classroom, incorporating colours and symbols, and included a slogan to accompany their flag.

Different cultural facts: Students reported information about different cultures that they found interesting.

Welcoming others: Drawing on their knowledge of the picture story book My Two Blankets which was studied this term, students thought about different ways that they could make other people feel welcome at school.

Showing respect: Students identified ways in which they can show respect in different familiar environments.

Same and different: After exploring many different countries, students chose two to compare focusing on the similarities and differences.

The students look forward to sharing their work with you at the end of term Expo happening this Friday!
