Foundation

Students celebrated Father's Day by reading a book called 'Daddy's Kisses' and painting a portrait of their dad. These are on display outside the Foundation classroom.

Grades 1 and 2

Students looked at the famous portrait of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and learnt some interesting facts about the painting.

Students completed a See, Think, Feel, Wonder chart about the Mona Lisa.

Here are some comments from the students.

I see:

a beautiful background.

her hands.

a smile.

dark colours.

I think:

her hair is long.

she is posing to be painted.

she is happy because she is smiling.

I feel:

calm because the background is beautiful.

like I want to paint.

inspired.

happy and warm inside.

I wonder:

how long it took to paint her portrait.

why she is always looking at us.

why Leonardo De Vinci painted her.

why Leonardo de Vinci used dark colours.

Students were then given a set of eyes to create their own portrait of a person. Firstly, the outline was drawn using grey lead pencil, black marker was used to go over the pencil and finally colour was added using paint.

Here are some finished portraits.

Grades 3 and 4

Students completed their sewing on the wings to complete their birds.

Students mounted their birds onto a small block of wood. Students used sandpaper to smooth the edges of the wood.

Grades 5 and 6

The small sewn felt penguins continue to take shape with beaks, eyes and sewing the front and back together. Some penguins have added accessories such as hats or ties. These will be finished and ready for display early in Term 4.

Just take a moment to ....

go to a gallery during the holidays. When looking at an artwork, have a conversation about what you see, think, feel and wonder about the artwork.
