Music Ensembles achieve outstanding results at Balakava Eisteddfod
We are proud to announce some achievements from our recent interschool music competition.
Our Concert Band was awarded 1st place in the Senior Concert Band section, competing against seven other schools. A particularly exciting highlight was outperforming Playford International College, a special interest music school that performed the same two pieces—a true testament to the skill and dedication of our students.
Other ensemble results include:
- Intermediate Strings Group received an honourable mention.
- Vocal Quartet earned a participation certificate.
- Big Band encountered technical difficulties beyond their control but demonstrated impressive composure and professionalism throughout their performance.
- Strings group received the 2025 AUSTA Award for the best String Ensemble.
Congratulations to all students involved for their hard work, teamwork and musical excellence
Year 7 Class Band delivers a show-stopping performance
Our talented year 7 Class Band recently had its second concert of the year, showcasing their hard work and musical growth. Each section of the band had its moment to shine, with outstanding spotlight solos that thrilled the audience.
A special highlight included the clarinet section's rendition of the beloved "Bluey" theme, which brought smiles to both the audience and other members of the band alike. To cap off the evening, the entire band came together for a high-energy performance of "We Will Rock You," which had the audience joining in.
A special thank you to Ms. Horne, Mrs. Sarre and Mrs. Down as the year 7 music teachers and the teachers who came on the night.
VISUAL ART
Art students celebrate success at the Royal Adelaide Show
This year’s Royal Adelaide Show proved to be an outstanding platform for our talented art students, who showcased their creativity and skill and brought home well-deserved recognition.
A special congratulations goes to our three year 10 photography students who achieved remarkable success in their respective age categories. Lincoln B earned first place, Phoenix N secured second place and Shanay M was awarded third place. We are incredibly proud of all three students for their hard work and for representing our school.
In addition, five students received merits for their outstanding visual artworks across various categories. Kirra-Lee S was recognised for her innovative senior design project, while Shayla H earned a merit for her detailed drawing. Sam F for his painting work, Zaya B for her impressive digital landscape illustration, and Addi C for her senior illustration piece.
These merits highlight the diverse talents and dedication of our students in multiple art disciplines.
The winning and merit-winning artworks will be displayed in the Student Services area over the next few weeks. We invite the school community to visit and view these impressive pieces.
DRAMA
Year 9 and 10 drama explore Commedia dell’Arte with Andrew Crupi
Our Year 9 and 10 drama students recently participated in two exciting Commedia dell’Arte workshops with theatre practitioner Andrew Crupi. Across the sessions, students were introduced to the bold, exaggerated physicality of traditional Commedia characters such as Arlecchino, Pantalone and Il Dottore.
They also explored the art of Lazzi—the humorous, improvised comic routines that give Commedia its signature energy and playfulness. Through movement, improvisation, and character exploration, students discovered how physical expression and timing are central to storytelling in this centuries-old theatrical style.
The workshops were a fantastic opportunity for students to build their performance skills, gain confidence in physical theatre, and connect with the playful traditions of Commedia dell’Arte.
SACE Dance Showcase celebrates talent
The final SACE Dance Showcase of the year was a wonderful celebration of growth and talent. Featuring an array of solos, duos and group performances, the event highlighted the creative brilliance of our students. The year 12 students gave their final inspiring performances, leaving a lasting impact, while a few year 10 students made impressive solo debuts, showcasing their emerging talent.
A delightful surprise saw Ms. Thompson take the stage at the end of the opening piece after the interval, which received rapturous applause. The showcase was a fitting tribute to the dedication and passion of our dance students and staff.
A big thank you to Ms. Jaensch and her tech crew, Alex R, Oleg V and Darcy R and Ms. Thompson for her hard work and support.
