Karting brings STEM to life for year 8 IGNITE Student

Year 8 IGNITE student Jackson B.is proving how powerful STEM learning can be—both in the classroom and on the racetrack.

Jackson’s passion for science and technology began in primary school through a STEM program, but it was watching the Formula 1 Grand Prix that sparked a new interest: motorsport. Since then, he has taken up karting and sim racing, applying his STEM knowledge to real-world racing challenges.

From understanding gear ratios and tyre pressures to analysing track physics and lap times, Jackson says STEM gives him a competitive edge. “Karting brings STEM to life,” he explains. “You can be faster just by understanding the science behind it.”

Jackson’s achievements are impressive: five podium finishes in his first year of karting, 12 sim racing wins and even launching a personal science project into space on a SpaceX rocket.

His journey shows how STEM at school can open doors to unexpected and exciting futures—on the track, in the lab and beyond.
