Junior School News

Welcome back – we hope you enjoyed a relaxing term break and are ready for an action-packed term 4!

Last week students presented their Integrated Studies work at the Year 7 Sustainability Expo. Students have been researching different sustainability issues which impact the Eltham community and created innovative solutions to help to address these issues. Solutions needed to consider the three pillars of sustainability (social, environmental and economic factors), and prepare a pamphlet, product and pitch to present to the school community at the expo. A number of awards were presented including the Principal’s Award, Humanities Award, Critical Inquiry Award, Veggie Empire Award, Sustainable Group Award and the Science Award. Awards will be presented at today's Year 7 morning assembly.

Emma Hattam (Year 7, Everard House) created a crochet soft toy which she entered into the Royal Melbourne Show (Secondary competition) and won second place. Emma is an extremely talented needleworker, and we are proud of her incredible achievement.

A kind reminder to please communicate any challenges with attendance to the school. This can be achieved by entering this information through Compass and adding a ‘parent note’ to communicate to teachers and staff why your child is absent. This information is vital to help us to meet your young person at their point of need and offer additional supports when required. Additionally, please communicate any planned absences to your child’s coordinator. Note that planned extended absences need to be communicated and confirmed by Vincent Sicari, but this can be achieved via communications with your child’s coordinator.

As the weather begins to heat up again, we would like to remind families and carers to encourage SunSmart attire at school. Additionally, open-toed footwear should not be worn onsite.

What a fantastic way to end term 3. We hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing term break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for an action-packed term 4.
