Peer Observation Writing Cycle

We are excited to share that our whole school has just completed the second Peer Observations Writing Cycle for the year, with a three-week intensive focus on persuasive writing.

The purpose of these cycles is to provide every student with the opportunity to develop as a writer through daily practice and targeted feedback. Across the cycle, each child wrote a complete persuasive piece every day. After each piece, they received individualised feedback through the “Glow and Grow” model – recognising their strengths (Glow) and giving them clear next steps (Grow). This helped students to reflect and improve before tackling their next piece of writing.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, persistence, and creativity shown by our students. The attached bar graphs show the average persuasive writing score for each year level before the cycle (pre-test) and after the cycle (post-test). These results highlight the progress made across year levels and demonstrate the impact of consistent practice and feedback on student growth.

These writing cycles also help us as teachers to continue building our pedagogy around effective feedback. By taking turns to observe, teach, and provide feedback to one another, we are strengthening our collective practice. This builds on the learning we engaged in at our recent staff conference and through our ongoing work with Glen Pearsall, with a focus on clarity, precision, and high-impact feedback strategies.

A big congratulations to our students for their hard work, and to our teachers for continuing to foster a love of writing and growth across the school.
