Learning Recovery Update

NEW Monday Lunchtime Session

Learning Recovery is a support provided to ALL students who are behind in their work and need an opportunity to catch-up with some supports from teachers.

Students from Years 7 -12 are referred by teachers into Thursday Learning Recovery (as the first step) when they have been unable to demonstrate sufficient learning progress in a topic, outcome or unit within a specific class. Here are times and locations for Learning Recovery:

Years 7-12: Thu 3:10pm - 4:00pm, Room  F3

VM Students: Fri Lunchtime, Room - E2

All Students: Mon Lunchtime, Room - K1

NEW - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Once students have been referred to Thursday or Friday LR they are required to attend, regardless as to whether they have submitted the outstanding work prior to Learning Recovery.

Students who do not attend LR on the Thursdays or Friday sessions are now automatically enrolled to Monday Lunchtime in K1 with Ms Manser or Mr Doble.

If students do not attend LR on Monday (when you are present at school) we will contact home to discuss an appropriate next step - E.g. after school Principal Detention.

We very much appreciate the students who do the right thing and show up to LR when required. It helps us to help students to improve their learning outcomes.

Term 3 Reports Out Now!

Termly Learning Behaviours Reports

Towards the end of each term, teachers and students assess the learning behaviours that students demonstrated throughout the term. These simple reports provide comparative data of how the teacher sees the learning behaviours of the students and how the student sees their own learning behaviour, and are presented as a graphic allowing for comparisons between learning behaviours as the year progresses. This comparative data can be an effective conversation starter at home.

We encourage teachers to give feedback on overall progress throughout the term to send a clear message about learning growth as demonstrated in student’s assessments.

The following checklists help teachers & students make their learning behaviour determinations:

Careers and Pathways Recognition

Congratulations to Darren Hoogkamer, Jessie Dennison, Tim Knowles and Jenny Salahi from our Careers and Pathways Team for their passionate leadership and strong vision over the past few years in implementing the Education Department's Senior School Reforms. These reforms include the implementation of the Vocational Major Program, School-Based Apprenticeships, Expansion of VET offerings and Traineeships Program and the Hybrid VCE model. They offer all students a viable, meaningful and effective pathway into their choice of job/ vocation, training and further studies post Year 12.

In Recognition of the depth and breadth of the work that we do at the College, Wantirna has been represented in a newly released report which highlights the richness of our Careers and Pathways Operating Model through a detailed case study of what they call a 'Best Practice Operating Model'. The report details our extensive work in careers education from Years 7-12, driven by our passionate Careers Practitioners Jessie and Tim. Congratulations to the Pathways Team.
