The Circulatory System
Our Year 9/10 cells and systems students have been learning about the circulatory system, focusing on the heart, blood vessels, and the vital role these structures play in transporting oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. The heart dissection was a highlight of this unit.
Chemistry
Our Year 9 Core Science students are about the finish Chemistry unit. They examined variety of elements in the context of periodic table and learnt about chemical reactions, developing skills to identify evidence of change and represent these processes through balanced equations. Through a combination of practical investigations and theoretical learning, students demonstrated critical thinking, collaboration, and the ability to apply scientific concepts to real-world contexts.
Electricity
Year 8 students finished the Electricity unit in which they have learned the basics of electrical energy, different types of circuits. They have started the biology unit by looking into different types of cells and are learning how to use light microscopy. Soon they will be determining the "dirtiest place at the school" by an investigation of samples from different areas of the school.

Year 8 Science
The end of this term has seen our Year 8 students learn a lot about the world around us and what makes up everything. They have learnt about Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, membrane bound organelles and how the cell was discovered.
In the last week, the classes have been learning all about microscopes. Teachers have been doing demonstrations with some slides using the demonstration microscope projected to the whiteboard. The students have then been having a go at looking at some preprepared slides of various things before looking at their own specimens under the light microscopes. They have learnt how to focus, magnify, and describe what they see.
We look forward to seeing everything they can do with the topic when they return from the holidays, when they complete their summative assessment trying to find the Dirtiest Place in the School.
